Program: Week 1
Surf Camp Location "Maroochydore Surf Beach"
Your first week in Australia will be spent staying at the fabulous beach front facilities of the World Champion Maroochydore Surf Life Saving Club, which is situated on the Sunshine Coast about 60 miles north of the International Airport at Brisbane the Capital of Queensland. This is a spectacular part of the world!
Maroochydore Surf Life Saving Club is a club steeped in history. It first had volunteer Lifesavers patrolling beaches in 1915. In fact, Maroochydore S.L.S.C. was the first established life saving organization in Northern Australia. Maroochydore S.L.S.C. has the core responsibility of caring for the swimming and surfing public who use a stretch of ocean surf beach about 3 miles wide, with a designated "patrol centre" near its clubhouse.
- Maroochydore has won the Queensland State Championships more than any other Club.
- In the year 2000, Maroochydore took out the title of World Champion Surf Life Saving Club!
- Maroochydore S.L.S.C. defended that crown at Daytona, U.S.A. in May 2002.
- Maroochydore has been among the leading Clubs in Australia for the past two decades.
Australia, and in particular Queensland, leads the world in the practice and development of Lifesaving techniques, scientific research into rescue and resuscitation methods and the treatment of marine stingers. Surf Lifesaving in Australia is a completely voluntary organization, which does not charge for these services! In this way, Australian Surf Lifesavers are unique in the world.
