Program: Week 3

Reef Camp Location "Great Keppel Island - Great Barrier Reef"

The Great Barrier Reef stretches more than 1200 miles along the coastline of Queensland. More than 2900 individual reefs and 71 coral islands make up the Great Barrier Reef. Islands and reefs are typically in remote locations. The waters of the Great Barrier Reef provide the world's busiest and most varied marine habitats. Marine life is in abundance and perfect for diving and snorkelling. The varied colours of the reef's fish and other marine life will astound the visitor.

Great Keppel Island will be your base Camp. It is located approximately 430 miles north of Brisbane, Great Keppel is a tropical island edged by 17 beautiful white sandy beaches. It is 17 miles in circumference and has 11 miles of beaches. It is the largest in the 14 islands known as the Keppel group. Great Keppel Island Resort lists ten walking trails starting with a 15 minute beach walk and culminating with a walk to the lighthouse at the other end of the island. The waters around the island are safe for snorkelling or diving. There are nine great diving sites in Keppel Bay. As a general principle the beaches are characterised by fine white sand packed hard enough to allow 4WD vehicles to drive along the beaches at low tide. The average temperature is 77 degrees Fahrenheit.
