What is a Man?
He's not measured in years. He's not measured by titles. Manhood is earned, proved, tested by character - the hidden substance within.
When a boy chooses manhood, he understands its demands, its responsibilities. He knows there is a test. There has to be proof. He welcomes the challenge. To become a man, the boy must conquer the child. He must face his fears, his limitations, his reliance on the comforts and securities of the past. He must step up to the plate, and embrace the future with courage.
When a boy becomes a man, he knows who he is - and is respected for it. Leaving the world of parents, a boy must look beyond even his own father to find mentors who can help him navigate the passage. Mentors who will encourage, challenge, train and equip him to leap over the edge into manhood. Mentors who lead by example, modeling strength, initiative, determination. Mentors who show the way.
A man is a rare thing. A true man leads not only his own family. He leads communities, nations, even society at large. He leads well because he leads himself. His respect is found in humility, in vision, and in purpose.
